Q&A: DCM-043 Clamp Meter – 4~20 mA Measurement
Q: Is the DCM-043 Digital AC/DC clamp meter capable of measuring a 4 to 20 mA current with the clamp function?
A: Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the use of our DCM-043 clamp meter for measuring 4~20 mA current signals.
Our engineers do not recommend using the DCM-043 for this application.
Due to the limitations of the Hall sensor, small DC current measurements are highly susceptible to environmental electric fields and electromagnetic interference. This can result in significant measurement errors.
Although the DCM-043 can display up to 0.001 A (1 mA), the user manual indicates that the accuracy correction is ±10 digits. In practice, only readings accurate to 0.01 A (10 mA) are reliable.
Conclusion: Unless using a high-end clamp meter specifically designed for low current measurements, we suggest using a contact-type digital multimeter to measure 4–20 mA current signals for better accuracy.
Thank you for your understanding.
