About Emissivity
Emissivity refers to the ability of any object to emit infrared radiation. Metals have lower emissivity, while materials like human skin, water, or wood are around 0.95. Adjusting emissivity on your IR thermometer helps obtain precise readings across different surfaces.
About Distance‑to‑Spot Ratio (D:S)
The D:S ratio describes how the measured spot size grows with distance. For small targets at a distance, choose a higher D:S ratio so the instrument measures your target, not the background.
